[edit] Monster World
[edit] Duelist Kingdom
Dark Bakura enters Pegasus's tournament in hopes of achieving Yuugi's Millennium Puzzle. While pretending to be Ryou Bakura he gets Yuugi, Jonouchi, Anzu, and Honda to reveal their favorite cards. He then challenges Yuugi to duel in which Yuugi uses his friend's cards. It is at this point that Dark Bakura seals their souls into their favorite cards. Dark Bakura attempts to take the Millennium Puzzle from Yuugi, but he's stopped by Dark Yuugi, the spirit of the Millennium Puzzle. Dark Bakura divulges that he seeks the Millennium Items and the power that they possess. Dark Yuugi vows that he won't allow Dark Bakura to succeed in claiming his Millennium Puzzle and they engage in a duel. Dark Yuugi summons his friends, who were sealed inside their favorite cards, to the playing field. Dark Bakura attempts to use the Change of Heart card to force Yuugi to destroy his friends. However, Bakura (whose soul was sealed into his favorite card, the Change of Heart)possesses one of Dark Bakura's monsters and demands that Yuugi destroy him so that Dark Bakura can't win the duel. Instead of destroying Bakura, Dark Yuugi uses the power of his Millennium Puzzle to switch Bakura and Dark Bakura's souls. Dark Bakura is now trapped in the monster that Bakura had possessed. Dark Yuugi uses this chance to send him to the graveyard.
Bakura follows Yuugi to Pegasus' castle. During Pegasus' and Yuugi's duel, Honda leaves the group in search of Mokuba, and Bakura follows. Dark Bakura rescues Honda from Pegasus' guards by summoning monsters. While the guards are tied up Dark Bakura and Honda escape. However, they run into a dead end.
[edit] Battle City
In Battle City Dark Bakura continues his search for the Millennium Items. He comes across Anzu who tells him that Yuugi's Millennium Puzzle has been stolen. The Millennium Ring leads him to a warehouse in which Yuugi and Bandit Keith are dueling. Dark Bakura realizes that Bandit Keith is the one who stole the Millennium Puzzle and surprises him by knocking him off of the dueling platform. Under the guise of Ryou, Dark Bakura helps Yuugi gather the pieces of the Millennium Puzzle. But unkbeknowst to Yuugi, he seals part of his soul within a piece of the Puzzle. By sealing part of his soul in the Puzzle, Dark Bakura intends to explore it in order to uncover the secrets of the Millennium Items.
Dark Bakura's Millennium Ring leads him to Marik Ishtar. Dark Bakura and Marik strike a bargain: Marik will give Dark Bakura the Millennium Rod if he enters the Battle City Tournament and wins him the Egyptian God cards. Dark Bakura acquires all six puzzle cards that are required to enter the tournament. He competes in the first duel of the Battle City Finals against Yuugi. Dark Bakura has the upper-hand for most of the duel, until Yuugi summons Osiris-his Eygptian God card. With no way of defending himself from Osiris, Dark Bakura relinquishes control of Bakura (as per Marik's suggestion). Since Bakura is wounded, Marik assumes that Yuugi won't attack, lest he risk hurting his friend even more. However, Dark Bakura is not willing to risk his host's body and takes control of Bakura again. He challenges Yuugi to attack him and is rendered unconscious from Osiris' attack.
After awakening from his sleep, Dark Bakura agrees to help Marik defeat Dark Marik and win back his body. Dark Bakura manages to get The Winged Dragon of Ra from Dark Marik and summon it, but Dark Marik renders Ra powerless with a trap card. With Ra powerless, Dark Bakura sends it to the graveyard. Dark Marik resurrects Ra from the graveyard and uses it's secret power to destroy Dark Bakura and Marik (who was inhabiting Bakura's body).
[edit] Memory World
It is in the final arc of Duel Monsters that Dark Bakura's plan finally comes to fruition. When Haga and Ryuzaki steal the Millennium Items from Yuugi, Dark Bakura reclaims the Millennium Ring. He is then confronted by Yuugi. Dark Bakura returns all the Millennium Items to Yuugi, except for the Ring. Dark Bakura challenges Yuugi to a Game of Darkness in the Pharaoh's memory world. Shortly after Yuugi accepts the challenge, Dark Bakura heads over to Kaiba Corporation to duel Kaiba. Dark Bakura intends to gain the power of the Blue Eyes White Dragon, and after he succeeds he abandons the duel. Dark Bakura flies to Egypt and waits for Yuugi to open the door to the Pharaoh's Memory World. Once Yuugi opens the door to the Pharaoh's memory world, Dark Bakura merges with the part of his spirit that he had sealed into the Millennium Puzzle. Upon entering the memory world, Dark Bakura finds himself in the body of his ancient Egyptian self.
He steals treasure from the tomb of Akunamukanon and forces his way in to the palace where he finds the Pharaoh. Dark Bakura demands that the Millennium Items be handed over to him, but the Pharaoh's priests refuse. Dark Bakura summons his Diabound and the priests try to seal it within a stone tablet, but they're unsuccessful. In order to combat Dark Bakura, the priests each summon a creature from their respective temples. They fight against Diabound but prove to be no match for it. Dark Bakura explains that it was Akunamukanon who created the seven Millennium Items. The priests refuse to believe and claim that Akunamukanon brought peace to their country. Dark Bakura further explains that the Millennium Items bring out the darkness in its wielder's heart. He then says that if all seven items are placed into the stone tablet in the village of Kul-Elna, the power of the underworld will be unleashed. Angered by what Dark Bakura has said, the priests summon more creatures and fail to defeat him again. He attempts to attack the Pharaoh, but the Pharaoh summons Obelisk. Obelisk attacks Diabound, but thanks to the power of the Blue Eyes White Dragon, Diabound survives the attack. Dark Bakura realizes that he and the Pharaoh have equal power and it would be pointless to continue fighting. Dark Bakura leaves the palace, and the priests are unable to locate him.
Dark Bakura's next step is to obtain the Millennium Items. He decides the take the Millennium Ring from Mahado first. Mahado sets out on his own to try to defeat Dark Bakura and leads him into a trap. Dark Bakura summons his Diabound, which has changed in appearance. Dark Bakura explains that this change has occurred because his hate has grown stronger. Mahado summons his Magician, which has changed in appearance as well. Dark Bakura notices this change and that Mahado has become more powerful, but he claims that it's still not enough to defeat him. Mahado's Magician manages to injure Diabound with a surprise attack. Mahado then summons Shadow Ghoul, but it gets defeated by Diabound and Diabound gains Shadow Ghoul's power of invisibility. Diabound uses its new ability to attack Mahado's Magician. Dark Bakura takes a step forward to make his final attack on Mahado, but steps into a trap. Dark Bakura is unable to move with the trap clamped around his ankle, and Mahado sets off another trap; swinging axes. Instead of Dark Bakura getting hit by the axes, they slice off the trap around his ankle. Dark Bakura has Diabound attack Mahado, severely weakening him. In a final attempt to defeat Dark Bakura, Mahado fuses himself with his magician. Mahado is unable to defeat Dark Bakura, and Dark Bakura walks away with the Millennium Ring.
Dark Bakura enters the temple that Akunadin is in and overpowers him with physical force. He uses the power of the Millennium Ring to brainwash Akunadin into being his servant. With Akunadin now unconscious, Dark Bakura destroys part of the temple, alerting the Pharaoh and the rest of the palace to his presence. The Pharaoh follows Dark Bakura through the village on horseback and summons Osiris to fight Diabound. Osiris grabs a hold of Diabound and pulls it into the sky so that the villagers don't get injured by the fighting. Once Osiris lets go of Diabound, Diabound disappears into the shadows. Dark Bakura demands that the Pharaoh hand over the Millennium Puzzle. He takes the Millennium Puzzle from around his neck and holds it out. Dark Bakura is surprised that the Pharaoh is willing to hand over the Puzzle, and therefore doesn't notice that Osiris is ready to attack him. As soon as he realizes that he's about to be attacked, Diabound emerges from the shadows behind the Pharaoh. Osiris stops its attack now that the Pharaoh is in danger. Just as Diabound is about to kill the Pharaoh, Seto's Dios stops the attack. Upset at the arrival of the priests, Dark Bakura leaves the village. Karim sends one of his creatures after him, but it's destroyed by Diabound. The Pharaoh heads in Dark Bakuras direction, and the priests follow. The Pharaoh catches up with Dark Bakura outside the village. Osiris and Diabound attack each other at the same time. Thanks to Akunadin destroying Osiris' stone tablet at the same moment, Diabound remains unharmed and acquires Osiris' power. The Pharaoh, having lost almost all his strength, falls off his horse. Yuugi, Honda, Anzu, and Jounoichi come to the Pharaohs aid and give him the strength he needs to keep fighting. He gets back onto his horse and summons the Sun God Ra, illuminating the night sky. Without shadow, Diabound has nowhere to hide. Dark Bakura has Diabound attack Ra, hoping that the power of the other two gods that he wields will be enough to defeat Ra. Seto's Dios stops the attack before it can reach Ra. Ra then transforms into God Phoenix mode, and destroys both Diabound and Dark Bakura. However, this isn't the end of Dark Bakura. Time suddenly begins to flow backward, but returns to normal at the moment Diabound destroyed Osiris. Realizing that the flow of time has changed, the Pharaoh approaches Dark Bakura. Diabound attacks where the Pharaoh is, causing the ground to collapse from under him. Dark Bakura looks into the ravine that was created by Diabounds attack, and sees the Pharaoh hanging onto the edge. Dark Bakura takes the Millennium Puzzle and sends the Pharaoh falling through the ravine. Outraged by what Dark Bakura has done, Honda attacks him. Dark Bakura grabs Honda by the throat and lifts him above the ground, asking him if he wants to die. He then throws Honda to the ground.
