Differences Between the Orginal Manga and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Anime
From Janime
Although in terms of general plot and events, the manga and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters anime are largely the same, there are still many notable differences between the two -- especially the content in the first and last seven volumes of the manga, much of which is absent in the anime or vastly changed. Many of the changes focus on toning down violent or suggestive scenes, as well as increasing the focus on the Duel Monsters card game. The biggest changes are, of course, the filler arcs which were added into the anime to prevent it from catching up with the manga. These arcs are inevitably Duel Monsters-themed.

[edit] General Differences
- The Duel Boxes are replaced by Duel Rings - In the manga the creator of the Duel Box was Kaiba, instead he designed the Duel Ring in the anime. Siegfriend von Schroider is later credited with the creation of the Duel Box.
- In the manga, scars can be seen on Pegasus's face, around his Millennium Eye. They are visible during the Game of Darkness part of Yugi's and Pegasus's duel in Duelist Kingdom and the end of chapter 62, where he shows his Eye to Yugi. The scars are never shown in the anime.
- The staircase to Duelist Kingdom was much longer in the anime than in the manga.
- Pegasus wears white trousers in the manga. In the anime, it's red, just like his suit.
- Pegasus' eye color is blue on the manga covers, while it is brown in the anime.
- In the volumes which cover the early parts of Duelist Kingdom, Pegasus' suit also includes a pocket square. While it is gone from his design in the later volumes, it is completely absent from the anime.
- In the manga, he is seen drinking wine on only one occasion, and that is when he is reading his Funny Rabbit comic. In the anime, however, he is witnessed enjoying his drink several times.
- The layout of Pegasus' castle is different in the anime, featuring bottomless pits and endless ceilings. In the manga, the semifinals as well as the finals were handled in a room with an upper and lower floor.
- Pegasus' sanctuary does not exist in the manga.
