Dinosaur Ryuzaki (ダイナソー竜崎 Dainasō Ryūzaki) is the arrogant runner-up to the title of Japanese champion at Duel Monsters (Magic and Wizards in the original manga), hailing from West Japan. He is not especially intelligent and has poor luck, however he has a powerful deck full of rare Dinosaur cards which crush most opponents. Wherever Duel Monsters tournaments are held, Ryuzaki is never far away.

[edit] Personality
Ryuzaki, who carries the nickname 'Dinosaur' due to his fascination with the creatures, is an arrogant and boastful boy who is hungry for victory. Although he is crafty, his plans rarely work out in his favor because he is easy to outwit. Usually his greed gets the best of him.
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters he is often seen around Insector Haga, the champion duelist who defeated him in the Japanese regional Duel Monsters tournament. The two quarrel frequently but they seem to enjoy each other's company, although Haga is 'the brains' of the duo.
Although he is not particularly respectful to his opponents, Ryuzaki plays Duel Monsters fairly and is willing to take great risks. He is no good at being a celebrity and the popularity of being the second-ranked duelist in Japan quickly goes to his head. Because of this, he disillusions much of his fans. Ryuzaki tries hard to find the source of his newly-plummeting respect and it is this weakness and lust for power that allows him to later be taken in by the sinister Doma Organisation.
[edit] Biography
[edit] Duelist Kingdom
Ryuzaki is introduced as a finalist in the Japanese regional Duel Monsters tournament, where he is representing West Japan against Insector Haga from East Japan. He is easily defeated by Haga, but despite this he is still prestigious enough to be entered into the Duelist Kingdom tournament hosted by Pegasus J. Crawford. Whilst on the cruise ship he invites Mai Kujaku back to his private suite, where Mai makes a bet with Ryuzaki. If Ryuzaki wins, she'll do whatever he wants all night long. If she wins, she gets his private suite to herself. Despite the fact that Mai can apparently predict the cards that she is going to draw, Ryuzaki still goes through with the duel. Once again, he loses and is kicked out of his room.
On the Duelist Kingdom island, Ryuzaki manages to win five chips in the first day of dueling and tracks down Mai for a rematch. However, Mai is not interested in playing with somebody whom she has already defeated and turns him down. After some quick thinking, Mai realizes that she can avenge her own loss to Katsuya Jonouchi by having Ryuzaki defeat him. She makes a deal: she will duel with Ryuzaki if he can defeat Jonouchi first. Also, he will be her slave until he has defeated Jonouchi.
The two approach Jonouchi and challenge him. Ryuzaki's Dinosaur cards easily destroy most of Jonouchi's monsters, but the Dinosaurs' weakness to Jonouchi's Flame Swordsman causes the tables to turn. Ryuzaki is forced to pull out his strongest card, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, which makes short work of everything his opponent can throw at it. When it seems that Ryuzaki will win, he realizes that Jonouchi owns the Time Wizard, the card that defeated Mai. He places an ante of his own Red-Eyes Black Dragon in exchange for Jonouchi's Time Wizard - winner takes all. Since Ryuzaki was willing to risk so much to get the Time Wizard, Jonouchi realizes that it must be useful and activates it. The Time Wizard's effect is a gamble with low odds of winning, but Jonouchi's luck come through for him and as a result all of Ryuzaki's monsters are fossilized, reducing his Life Points to zero (in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Ryuzaki only has Red-Eyes Black Dragon on the field but in the manga he still has several surviving Dinosaurs in play as well).
Ryuzaki remains in the tournament since he only loses two of his five star chips in the game, but he is not seen after losing. He apparently eliminated, as he does not appear in the finalists of the tournament.

[edit] Duel Monsters / Magic and Wizards
Ryuzaki is especially fond of Dinosaur-themed cards and has little more strategy than simply overpowering his opponents with strong Dinosaurs such as Two-Headed King Rex. His very strongest creatures often tend to be Dragons - he paid everything he had to acquire the legendarily rare Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Unluckily for him a gamble with Katsuya Jonouchi goes wrong, and he loses this card. In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Ryuzaki also holds the Evil Night Dragon, a premier card which he acquired from ranking highly in a past tournament. This card is also lost to Esper Roba as an ante in the Battle City tournament.
