Duel Monsters (デュエル モンスターズ Dyueru Monsutāzu) is a collectible card game produced by Industrial Illusions. In the manga the game is referred to as Magic and Wizards. Every Yu-Gi-Oh! anime refers to it as 'Duel Monsters'. Starting off in the early manga as merely a card game that is popular in America, Duel Monsters has gradually increased in importance, starting with the revelation that its creator Pegasus J. Crawford based the game off relics found in his travels through Egypt, to massive tournaments such as Duelist Kingdom and Battle City using state-of-the-art Kaiba Corporation holographic technology - and even further, in filler arcs such as Doma and spin-off series such as Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX, entire Duel Monsters Worlds have been revealed in other dimensions. Despite these later steps away from the game's origins, Duel Monsters' Ancient Egyptian roots still define it.
