[edit] Personality
Edo views the world in an elitist fashion, regardless of when he's dueling or not. He takes advantage to what he has, but also has a sensitive side when it comes to his monsters. He won't tolerate any criticisms to his monsters and his past often dictates his actions. He believes in destiny and most of his ideals and beliefs come from his adherence to the theory that everything is controlled by destiny.
[edit] Family
Edo's mother is never shown in the series, however, it is implied that Edo and his father had a very close relationship. His life is mostly dedicated to avenging his father's murder. After his father's death, Edo is adopted by DD who serves as a father figure for Edo and teaches him how to duel. However, Edo is also reliant on Saiou Takuma and shares a deep bond with Saiou. This leads to his eventually visit to Duel Academia and his perspectives on life.
[edit] Relationships
Judai
At first, Edo views Judai as just an ordinary duelist and feels the burden of having to duel with such a duelist. He doesn't understand why Saiou would ask him to duel Judai, for in Edo's mind, Judai wouldn't have a chance of even beating him. This is portrayed when Edo slaps together freshly bought cards to duel Judai, instead of using his normal deck.
Ryo
Edo doesn't think much of Ryo when he first duels him and makes fun of Ryo in the process. However, they begin to be closer after the zombie incident in which they were the only ones from the school who were left behind (Edo didn't go to school and Ryo had already graduated). After their appearance in Season 3, they are often seen together and they make a good team.
Manjoume
Edo seemed to be just another person who dueled better than Manjoume, so Manjoume disliked him. However, as the series went to Season 4, Chronos brought them together by requesting Edo to be Manjoume's tutor. In this process, Manjoume and Edo become closer while Edo trains him to be more civilized and obedient. In the end, Edo's work pays off and Manjoume is accepted into many Duel Leagues.
Saiou
Saiou first met Edo when his father just passed away and Saiou brought him to tell him about Edo's fortune. Saiou told Edo that Edo would have to save Saiou someday, and that Saiou would turn evil according to his predictions. Because of the prolonged time in which Saiou and Edo were together, Edo adopted many of Saiou's ideas.
[edit] Biography
[edit] Light of Destruction
Edo first appears in a duel with Judai Yuki to a duel. He eventually loses, but not without a fight. Afterwards, Tome tells Judai that Edo had just put together his deck that morning to Judai's surprise. Sho Marufuji also points out that Edo is a pro duelist, again much to Judai's surprise and the group wonders why Edo is doing at the island.
Some episodes later, Edo is scheduled to duel Ryo Marufuji in the Pro League. Ryo finds Edo in a dark alley after Edo dueled a person and flipped through all of his cards. Ryo finds this to be strange, but later in the same episode, Takuma Saiou tells Edo not to go off and duel people like that and rather to concentrate on the duel to be held the day after.
The next day, Duel Academy shows the duel of Edo and Ryo to all of the students, and the group is curious to find out what Edo's real deck consists of. Edo starts the duel and to everyone's surprise, he plays an E-hero, the same as what Judai would play. The group immediately gets upset, but stays to watch Edo laugh at Ryo and beat him. After the duel, Edo accepts an interview and challenges Judai to a duel on the air. Some days later, Edo comes back to Duel Academy via a helicopter and sky dives down. He spots a person coming out of a store with stolen cards and beats him in a duel, causing the person to scream. Judai and the others come over to check out the event, but Edo treats Judai impolitely and tells him that he will duel him tomorrow. Later, it is revealed that Edo duels people to find a card that his father made. The next day, Edo duels Judai with E-Heros, however, halfway through the duel, he starts using D-Heros, which he claims are the best cards in the world that his dad made. Eventually, Edo pushes Judai to a corner and wins the duel. Since Saiou had already cast a spell on Edo's deck, Judai is made unable to see his cards.
In Episode 67, Edo is shown to be with Saiou discussing how Saiou's predictions could be overturned by a special person, namely, Judai. Saiou asks Edo to return back to Duel Academy, but Edo doesn't reply. Outside the building where he and Saiou were talking, Edo remembers the first time Saiou found him and told him about his predictions. Abruptly, Edo gets a phone call from Napolean Bonaparte which informs him that if he comes to the academy and wins a duel, Napolean will give him information about his father. Edo decides to return to the Academy to find out, but meanwhile, Judai comes back and challenges Edo to a duel instead of the original plan of Asuka Tenjouin vs. Edo. Edo loses the duel and decides to contact Saiou, but Saiou doesn't reply to his phone call. As a result, Edo decides to stay at the school and observe Saiou's behavior. He goes to several duels that are initiated by the Society of Light and is suspicious of the whole group.
In Episode 77, Edo is asked to a tag duel with Judai by Mizuchi Saiou to determine who is the chosen one, which is the person who will defy destiny. At first, Edo is not willing to comply at all, and acts selfishly to his own will, much to Judai's discontent. Judai and Edo finally win the duel, and Mizuchi tells them that they both are the chosen one, and adds to Edo that Saiou had received a mysterious card, much like the one Edo was looking for.
Finally, in Episode 97, the card holder is revealed to be DD, the man who adopted Edo. Edo is very surprising and angry that DD had to kill his dad for the card, and DD explains to him that he wanted the card ever since Edo dropped a page of his dad's artwork on the ground. The light had possessed the card, and DD stole the card while killing Edo's dad in the process. Edo is very angry and duels DD. DD summons the card, which is D-Hero Bloo-D pushing Edo to a corner. Edo eventually wins with a card that his dad wanted to give him, but instead a colleague had to give the card to Edo since his father had passed away. In the process, the ship that Edo and DD were dueling on is caught on fire. Edo picks up the card while exiting the ship.
Right after getting on the island, Edo challenges Saiou to a duel, and Saiou tells him that he predicted that Edo would come, but Edo isn't the chosen one. Saiou accepts while having the key that Edo held for a Satellite for the stakes of the duel. Saiou pushes Edo to the corner on the first few turns, however, Edo manages to summon Bloo-D, taking away much of Saiou's lifepoints before Saiou summons one of his strongest Arcana cards, Arcana Force EX_The Light Ruler. Edo loses as a result and is turned into dust. Edo is later revealed to not have been killed and Judai sacrifices his own key to save Edo. However, Saiou doesn't keep his promise and tries to sink Edo into molten lava. Tyranno Kenzan saves Edo by jumping onto the statue that Edo was put on, and Edo wakes up to see the rest of the duel. After Saiou is turned back to his former self, Edo comforts Saiou and forgives him for all Saiou has done.
[edit] Yubel
Edo appears again during a duel between Johan Andersen and Judai. He explains the origins and effects of the Crystal Beast cards that Johan owns and it is revealed that Edo received this information from a party, a party which was made by Pegasus because Edo had won a tournament. It is also revealed that Pegasus thinks of Edo as his top four, the other 3 being Yugi, Kaiba and Joey. After Johan's duel, Edo goes back to the Pro League and is not seen for some time.
When the school warps into a different dimension, Edo reappears to see how everyone is doing and to help bring them back to their world. He doesn't really play a part in the show until Judai becomes the Supreme King. With Ryo, he appears to help Austin with the operation to bring Judai back to normal. They succeed, however, they run into Amon Garam quickly afterwards, and Edo's loss makes him vanish into another world.
At the end of the season, Edo returns back to the real world after Judai destroys Yubel's plans.
[edit] Darkness
Edo becomes Manjoume's mentor due to Chronos' request and trains him to do all sorts of hard labor. Along the way, Manjoume loses a card that Edo entrusted to him. Due to this, Manjoume has to duel Judai and if he loses, Edo was to be responsible for the lost card. Unfortunately, Manjoume loses, but after some self-realization, Manjoume and Edo duel again. This time, Edo summons his ultimate monster Bloo-D Dragoon (the lost card) against Manjoume's Armed Dragon Level 10. Manjoume wins in the end, and Edo's training is successful. At the end of the season, Edo appears again, however, he doesn't play much part in the duels or the action.
