Rudger Godwin

Rudger Godwin is the leader of the Dark Signers and the one who wields the Spider Birthmark. Obvious in his name, he is Rex Godwin's big brother, and a researcher involved in the Old Momentum project. He has the ability to turn normal human beings into Dark Signers, and duel through their bodies.

Rudger isn't a very quiet person, in fact, he has incredible charisma. He taunts his opponents, particularly Yusei Fudo, in order to find the darkness in their hearts. Once found, he feeds off of it, in a similar fashion to Divine. He holds his beliefs strongly, though his beliefs themselves are not for the lesser evil.

Rudger served as an assistant to Professor Fudo, while working for M.I.D.S. Professor Fudo was bent on canceling the Momentum project due to the natural disasters occurring in Neo Domino City. But wanting to continue the research, Rudger researched occurrences similar to what was happening in the city. He then came across the Nazca Lines. There, he meets a Yliaster. He told Rudger that he was destined to activate the Momentum system and tells him to look into its depth, or its "light". After returning to the facility, Rudger looked into the light of the system. He then saw the 5000 year-old battle between the Crimson Dragon and the Earthbound Gods. After betraying Professor Fudo, he was appointed as leader of the Momentum Project.
After taking over the research team, he overloaded and activated the Momentum system which ultimately lead to the Zero Reverse incident that created Satellite. Rudger was brought back as a Dark Signer by the first Earthbound God, Uru.

Rudger possessed Dick Pitt and Tetsu Ushio, in order to test the Signers Yusei Fudo and Jack Atlas.
When the Signers arrive in Satellite, Rudger appears and challenges them to a duel. Jack wants to, but is stopped by Yusei as he tells him that it's too dangerous to duel here, especially if a Nazca Line geoglyph appears. Jack is instructed to take Martha and the kids somewhere safe, while Yusei faces Rudger in a Duel of Darkness.
However, three of the children decide to watch the Duel. During the Duel, Yusei and Aki notice two kids near the flames caused by the geoglyph. As Rudger prepares to sacrifice the said children, Jack appears and uses his birthmark to nullify it. Rudger uses his abilities to flee and force Rally to take his place.
Rudger, along with the other Dark Signers later appear before their rivals, the Signers, to begin their final battle. Each of his comrades are stationed at the Momentum's four towers, with the purpose of dueling against their correspondent Signer rival. As for Rudger, he awaits Yusei within the place where the system itself resides. After Demak's defeat, he kills Bommer in order to make him into a Dark Signer by hanging him over the Old Momentum.
After Kiryu's defeat, Rudger's mark burns. He is confronted by Rex Godwin and it is revealed that both have mechanized left arms. Yusei and the others make their way into the center of the Momentum system, where they confront Rudger. During the duel he reveals more of what occurred 17 years ago. Rudger reveals that Professor Fudo began the Yusei Project. And that same project resulted in the creation of the Old Momentum. Before causing the Zero Reverse incident he also reveals that the reason of why he caused the explosion. Rudger states that it was only a way to be reborn into a Dark Signer. As even if he was chosen since birth by the Crimson Dragon, Nazca Lines had too. And so Rudger instead had preferred the path of darkness, which ultimately lead to his doom.
Yusei beats Rudger, and though defeated, Rudger proceeds to tell Yusei that things have not finished yet, as a new god will soon be born, that being the King of the Underworld.
Finally, Rudger dissolves away and quickly detonates his left arm, blowing up the bridge and sending Yusei falling into the depths of the Old Momentum.
