Ryo Bakura (獏良 了 Bakura Ryō) is a shy student who transfers to Domino High School. He is interested in tabletop role-playing games, specifically his favorite role-playing game Monster World. However, his personality is often suppressed by the evil spirit living inside the Millennium Ring given to him by his father, an archaeologist. The spirit often takes control of his body and influences his actions.

He's a kind and shy boy who cares about his friends. He has shown in two separate instances that he's willing to sacrifice himself in order to protect his friends. He enjoys playing Duel Monsters and is very knowledgeable about the game, but it's unknown how well he can actually play the game.
