Sugoroku Mutou (武藤 双六 Mutō Sugoroku) is Yugi's grandfather and the owner of the Kame Game Store in Domino City. He was once a legendary gamer much like Yugi himself, and often sought for greater challenges. He used to travel to Egypt, and even has knowledge of how to read hieroglyphs. Sugoroku often shows up to help Yugi out, but is also targeted by Yugi's enemies. He is in fact the reincarnation of Shimon Muran, the Pharaoh's vizier who lived 3000 years before the events of the series.

Sugoroku gives his deck to Yugi early on in the series, after being defeated by Kaiba's three Blue-Eyes White Dragons. Kaiba then shreds Sugoroku's Blue-Eyes card. Despite this, he is called a master of the game and his deck is still extremely powerful. A collection of rare and special cards, it contains the pieces of the Sealed God Exodia. These too, however, are also lost when Insector Haga throws them into the ocean on the way to Duelist Kingdom.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Sugoroku gains another deck in order to compete in the KC Grand Prix. This deck is themed on 'Ancient' cards, based on artifacts such as books and keys, and the Field Magic Card Ancient City. A complex procedure allows him to summon Ancient Dragon, a very powerful creature. In fitting with his love of gambling, Sugoroku also plays Legendary Gambler - a card which seems to feature his younger self on its illustration. Sugoroku and his new deck come very close to defeating Jonouchi.
