Yakou Tenma (天馬夜行 Tenma Yakō) is one of the many children adopted by Pegasus J. Crawford, along with his brother Gekkou. Yakou adored Pegasus, and rose to the title of heir to Industrial Illusions. He became obsessed with the Wicked God Cards which Pegasus had begun to design, and made them a reality. However, the dark energies within the cards overwhelmed his spirit and began to control him. When Pegasus disappeared, he turned his sights to revenge on the one he thought responsible: Yugi Mutou.

[edit] Personality

Yakou was a kind and somewhat weak boy, who was always jealous of his older twin brother Gekkou's prodigious duelings talents. He felt that he always lived in his brother's shadow, because although their faces were identical his dueling talents were far inferior. Yakou was still intensely loyal to Pegasus, so Pegasus's death shocked him to the core and brought out his darker side. He becomes obsessed with getting revenge on his mentor's murderer, and his research with the Wicked God Cards warps his appearance. Eventually, the influence of the Wicked Gods took over his personality.

Yakou often utilizes the Kaiba Corporation Solid Vision System to travel around in the form of a Solid Vision image, rather than meeting in person. When he duels he is confident and aggressive, but he will not accept any slander against Pegasus's name. Underneath his slightly unhinged exterior lies the spirit of a true duelist, which Pegasus himself was able to identify. Eventually, thanks to Gekkou and Yugi he is able to accept Pegasus's death and move on with his life.

[edit] Biography

[edit] History

Yakou as he appears in Yu-Gi-Oh! R.

When Yakou was still young, his parents died and he was adopted by Pegasus, who trained orphaned children to be game designers, duelists and other jobs relating to Industrial Illusions's line of work. Yakou worked hard to become a good duelist, but he was always overshadowed by his brother, Gekkou, whom Pegasus called a 'Perfect Duelist'. Yakou was considered to be more like an unpolished diamond, with great untapped potential.

When Yakou met with Pegasus the day before the Duelist Kingdom tournament, Pegasus explained his plans to take over the Kaiba Corporation and meet his lover, Cyndia, again. After the tournament, however, Pegasus was nowhere to be found, with only his Cyndia card left on the table where the final duel had been staged. It was covered with blood. Mr. Crocketts explained that Pegasus had been defeated by Yugi Mutou. Heartbroken, Yakou locked himself up in his room and began doing research into the mystical power of the Millennium Items and God Cards, known as the 'Mystic Science System'. As a result of the research, Yakou created three cards from the information within the possessions Pegasus left behind. These were the three Wicked God Cards, parallels to the original God Cards, that Pegasus had originally envisioned to act as deterrents to the Gods. Although he had envisioned them, he had never wanted them to be created.

Yakou's research used Bandit Keith Howard as a test to see if the power of the Wicked Gods could restore a person's shattered soul by using that person's deck, which holds a duelist's eternal 'sword of the heart'. The experiment was a success and Keith's soul was restored, although his soul was now tied completely to the Wicked God used to revive him, The Devils Eraser. Yakou set his sights on reviving someone of much greater importance to him: Pegasus himself.

[edit] Rebirth of Avatar

Yakou begins his plan to revive Pegasus by hacking into and taking control of the Kaiba Corporation using the power of Industrial Illusions. Most importantly, he now owns Kaiba Corporation's main computer which is the root of Solid Vision - the Duel Link Cyber System. Following this, he enters a Virtual Reality machine which creates a Solid Vision image of himself. This image heads for Domino High School, and Yugi.

His duplicate challenges Yugi to a duel. He throws a hint that he owns a card which will make it impossible for Yugi to resist, so Yugi accepts the Duel. Into the Duel, Dark Yugi summons Saint Dragon - the God of Osiris, and gains the upper hand. Then, out of nowhere, Yakou summons the first Wicked God: The Devils Avatar. Avatar appears as a black orb at first, but suddenly takes the shape of a black-colored Osiris. The Devils Avatar is immune to Osiris's Summon Thunder Shot effect, due to its ranking on the God hierarchy pyramid - it is level with Ra, and above both Osiris and Obelisk. Avatar destroys Osiris.

After explaining his motivation Yakou ends the duel and reveals that Anzu Mazaki, who was watching the duel, was nothing more than a Solid Vision image. She disappears, and Yakou goes on to explain that the real Anzu is with him, ready to be sacrificed for the 'R.A. Project'. In order to rescue her, Yugi will have to come to Kaiba Corporation HQ, which is under Yakou's control. Phase 2 of his plan is complete.

Yakou watches as Yugi duels his Card Professors to gain security access to the high levels of the building, and makes his move. He possesses his brother Gekkou and duels Dark Yugi using the second Wicked God: The Devils Dread-Root. Yugi defeats The Devils Dread-Root and Yakou gives up control of his brother. On a screen he shows Anzu trapped in the R.A. machine, and says that his plan is to resurrect Pegasus.

Seto Kaiba arrives at the building. 15 hours before, Seto had been at the North American Junior Champion Tournament in Las Vegas when Yakou arrived in Solid Vision form. The Duel Disks at the tournament began to malfunction, and Yakou told Seto that he had taken control of the Duel Link Server. Seto was angered that the agreement between Industrial Illusions and Kaiba Corporation had been broken, and set off for the HQ in Japan.

Yakou clashes with Seto Kaiba for the first time

Yakou greets the Kaiba brothers, once again in his Solid Vision form, and tries to persuade Seto to cooperate with him, due to their shared rivalry with Yugi Mutou. Seto declines. He reaches the office Yakou is occupying and knocks out the guards. Without sparing a moment, he deals Yakou a blow to the face with his metal briefcase.

[edit] Magic and Wizards

Yakou's deck focuses on the Wicked Gods and ways to summon them but he also has a heavy theme of religious imagery, with many angels and devils. When he was younger he always used to lose to his brother Gekkou, which frustrated him, but with the power of the Wicked Gods he is incredibly powerful. When he duels Dark Yugi using the body of his brother Gekkou, Yakou uses a deck made of of holy Seraphim monsters.

In his later duels, his monsters become darker, referencing many historical legendary demons. In the end, these monsters are just used as stepping stones for Yakou to use to summon his Wicked Gods. When he is freed from the Gods' influence Yakou proves that he is still skilled as a duelist and manages to summon Divine Beast-Machine King Barbaros-Ur, the monster closest to the Gods. Yugi defeats Barbaros-Ur, but admits that Yakou was indeed a worthy foe.
