Yugioh 5D's (遊☆戯☆王 5D's Yū☆gi☆ō Faibu Dīzu), is the manga equivalent to the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime that is currently airing weekly on TV Tokyo. The manga series began its serialized in the October issue of V-Jump released on August 21st 2009. The series, although sharing the same title as its counterpart, is distinctively separate to the anime, and ultimately shares little in common beside basic themes and certain characters, deviating heavily into its own plot, characters and cards. This was also the case with the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX anime and its adaption into the GX manga.

[edit] Plot Summary
Taking place in a similar reality to that of the 5D's anime, the manga sees Riding Duelist Yusei Fudo being brought into a conspiracy involving the Magic and Wizards card game. First hunted by a mysterious and legendary Skeleton Knight, Yusei is then attacked out of the blue by the ferocious Jack Atlas. In order to get to the bottom of the events, Yusei accepts an invitation to a Magic and Wizards tournament called the D1GP, which Jack is competing in. Meanwhile, Yusei's friend Sect is given a so-called 'Card of Darknes' by the Skeleton Knight -- exactly the thing that the true individual behind the tournament, Rex Godwin, is searching for.

[edit] Differences from the Anime
The alternate canon is made clear in some of the simple details of the series. Yusei's criminal marker, for example, is different and Riding Duelists no longer wear safety helmets. In addition, Riding Duels no longer require Speed Spells; however, they do utilise an effect called 'Feel': physical damage inflicted onto the opponent by the Solid Vision projections, depending on the player's skill.
Many characters, most notably Jack and Aki, have vastly different personalities and relations to Yusei in the manga. Jack is no longer Yusei's former friend and member of Team Satisfaction, although he is still the 'King' of Riding Duels'. Aki is no longer the mysterious Black Rose Witch; instead, she is the 'Queen' of Duel Academia. The only aspect some characters share with their anime counterparts is their design. Sherry LeBlanc is an example of such a radical change.
Although the details are very different, the manga is clearly inspired by the Fortune Cup tournament in the 5D's anime, which was set up by Rex Godwin to find Signers. The D1GP in the manga appears to have been set up by Godwin to find 'Cards of Darkness', and features many of the same characters.
