[edit] Story

While the game offers the choice to play Yugi or Kaiba, both storylines are similar. They both start with going to the headquarters of SIC Domino Labs, a virtual reality research firm. Yugi and his friends were invited to test the company's new game, codenamed "Kingdom". Kaiba and Mokuba go there to do the same, as well as discuss a possible joint venture between KaibaCorp and SIC. The setting of the game is that of a fantasy world where the monsters of the card game are real, and is ruled by an emperor named Haysheen. Though, not everyone is pleased with his rule, and as a result, various rebel armies have been established, in order to fight back and attempt bring down his tyrannical rule.

During both scenarios, the main characters are knocked unconscious while connecting by a mysterious shock, only to find themselves trapped within the game world. Yugi, waking up to find out that he's the leader of a rebel army, while Kaiba discovers that he's the leader of the Imperial Guard, and in charge of taking down any rebellions threatening the emperor.

After the completion of both scenarios, a third one become available, with Jonouchi as the main character. In this story, he leads a smaller rebel army called the Black Dragon Squad. This one is noticeably shorter than the other two, and serves as a prequel of sorts, as it details the events that occurred before Jonouchi's joining to Yugi's army (in Yugi's scenerio).

[edit] Gameplay

The in-game map screen (from the JPN version)

The game takes place on a overworld map with different terrains, such as oceans, forests or grass fields. Before each stage, the player is able to bring along up to eight Marshalls, whom each commands a team of up to three monsters. A Marshall is someone WHO is able to command monsters and is the game's equivalent to Duelists. While on the map, the monster that is placed in the middle is used as the team's avatar on the field. The monster on the middle also affects the overall team's movement speed.

To complete a mission, the usual objective to defeat the enemy's stronghold in battle, but other objectives include taking other towns in specific regions, doing a certain task within a time limit or sending a certain character to a certain location. Battles occur either by two teams cross each other's path, or when the player directs any team toward any town that an enemy made a base. After completing a battle, the monsters that participated earn EXP (Experiences Points), and may rise in LV as well as gain new abilities. After the mission, the player also receives gold, to use as the game's currency to buy items and/or equipment to use in future missions.
