Yusei Fudo (不動遊星 Fudō Yūsei) is a streetwise duelist who drives a red D-Wheel. He is usually quiet and monosyllabic, but is extremely talented at Duel Monsters. He plays a junk-themed Synchro deck that revolves around the one-of-a-kind Stardust Dragon. Yusei also believes that every card has a purpose, and strongly believes that all duelists should have faith in their cards and treat them well. Yusei was born with a Dragon Birthmark, making him a Signer.

[edit] Personality And Design

Though usually seen as calm and serious, he can lose his temper now and then, usually when his friends are provoked rather than himself.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Escaping Satellite

At the Beginning of the series, Yusei was building a new D-Wheel, after Jack Atlas had stolen the previous one he had built. Eventually with a stolen part Rally Dawson gave him in order to successfully complete his new D-Wheel. After its completion he had setup a plan to get to Neo-Domino City in order to find Jack and retrieve his stolen Stardust Dragon Card. He had won his first two Riding Duels, both against Tetsu Ushio. As soon as Yusei entered Neo-Domino City he was confronted by Jack Atlas. Jack had responded by that he knew that Yusei would be there and asked how long had it been since the two last seen each and Yusei responded by saying it had been two years. Jack then proceeded by giving Yusei his Stardust Dragon back and then saying that he didn't need that card anymore. Yusei gave it back to Jacksaying that he wanted to win it back in a Duel. Jack and Yusei had their duel and it resulted in Yusei supposedly receiving the victory. During the duel both Jack and Yusei had glowing birthmarks on their right arms and this created a burning sensation to both of them and this was caused by Red Demons Dragon and Stardust Dragon battling and the dueling was at its peak and about to end, but due to the interference of the Crimson Dragon, the Duel had no actual result, even though it was proven to be Yusei was the true victor due to the trap card "Meteor Stream".

[edit] The Facility

After Yusei and Jack's duel, Yusei was immediately arrested, had a marker placed on the left side of his face and was sentenced to go to the Detention Facility. There he had met an old man by the name of Tenzen Yanagi and Yusei had learned that he knew about the Legend of the Crimson Dragon. While at the Facility Yusei and Yanagi were confronted by Jin Himuro. Yanagi dueled Himuro with his Treasure Deck and lost to him. Then Yusei used Yanagi's deck since he did not have one and dueled him, since he disrespected Yanagi's cards by stepping on them. Yusei defeated Himuro with Yanagi's Treasure deck and gained the respect of Himuro. Shortly after Chief Takasu started searching Yusei for the Crimson Dragon birthmark on him on orders from Director Rex Godwin, but to no avail. Eventually Yusei is coerced into a duel by Takasu. Yusei had received cards from all of the inmates in order to Duel Takasu. Takasu and Yusei started their Lightning Death Match with Yusei prevailing in the end.

[edit] D-Wheel Retrieval

After defeating Takasu, Yusei was allowed to leave the facility. Before he left he was given a card by Himuro and instructions to meet up with a person called Saiga in order to get his D-Wheel back since it had been confiscated by security after his duel with Jack. Throughout going about finding Saiga, he is followed by a couple of Trailers into a bar where he gave the card to the Bartender and shortly after he left the bar and the trailers still after him, Saiga appears and took Yusei away and jammed the signal from the marker on his face and got away. Saiga setup Yusei for a way for him to get his D-Wheel in the Security Storage facility where it was held. During this moment Yusei noticed a picture of him and a friend holding a trophy. Saiga was reluctant told say anything at first but eventually told him why he doesn't duel anymore and why he isn't his friend. Then Yusei goes and infiltrates the storage facility and retrieves his D-Wheel, but Ushio had been watching him since he left the Detention Facility. Ushio immediately challenged him to a Duel, but Yusei had defeated him yet again. After defeating Ushio, Yusei was greeted by a swarm of security and was being tasered until he was knocked unconscience.

[edit] Return of Stardust Dragon

When he woke up he had been treated by the twins Rua and Ruka. There Yusei found out about the Fortune Cup, right about when Yusei was about to leave Rua begged for a duel only to lose to Yusei. Yusei was convinced to stay at the night by the twins, but Yusei had left during the night while the twins were sleeping. Shortly after leaving he was confronted by Ushio yet again, but this time Jeager, the Chief of Special Investigations of Security, intervened and gave Yusei an invitation to participate in the Fortune Cup and inside the letter was a picture of his friends back in Satellite. The next day Yusei was greeted by Yanagi and Himuro as they were released from the detention Facility. Himuro had challenged Yusei, since he had his actual deck with him this time. Right as when they were going to start the duel, Jack appeared to give Yusei back his Stardust Dragon.

[edit] Black Rose Witch

After the confrontation with Jack, Saiga had led Yusei, Yanagi and Himuro to the Daimon area to observe duels with people who had markers on them. Rua and his friend Tempei had seen Yusei there and went to meet with him. Soon strange things started to occur, when Yusei and the others went to check it out and saw that a masked person was causing real damage to the people that were dueling with her. Yusei wanted to get closer to her, but the closer he got his birthmark started reacting the same way it was when he was dueling Jack. Then Yusei saw that she also had a similar birthmark and as Yusei got closer she noticed it as well and then said "Wretched Mark" and then played a card into order to disappear.

[edit] Fortune Cup

Yusei left Satellite in order to get back his ace card from Jack Atlas, the King. Unfortunately, no winner was decided as the Crimson Dragon appeared. However, it is later revealed that Yusei would have won. After he was caught by Security, Yusei had a marker placed on his cheek and was sent to a detention center. There, he befriended Jin Himuro and Yanagi Tenzen. He is later freed when he defeats the abusive Chief Takasu. Before he left, Himuro gave him the Great Bull Djinn card. He is said to show it to a man named Saiga in a bar called Bootleg. Saiga then helps Yusei retrieve his D-Wheel and deck.

He is later saved by twins that go by the name of Rua and Ruka. He becomes rather intrigued by them, seeing as they remind him of Rally. After leaving the twins for fear that he might cause them trouble, he is threatened and blackmailed by Jaeger, the Head Of Special Investigations.

Yusei is later given back Stardust and forced to participate in the Fortune Cup. His first opponent is Mukuro Enjo, disguised as Shira. Yusei wins and moves on to face Bomber. After he is defeated as well, Bomber tries to take revenge on Rex Godwin for destroying his village. Yusei manages to stop him, and Bommer is take away by security. But beforehand, Bomber tells Yusei to "fullfill his own mission".

His last opponent is Aki Izayoi, whom he previously encountered in the Daimon Area. Yusei had already noted that she was driven by anger and rejection. However, after Aki's first move, he notices and points out, that she has also has a pleasure for destruction. Aki replies that that cannot be true, however later on the duel after people insult her again she accepts it all because of being the "Black Rose Witch". According to her this other side of her is the one who enjoys destruction all because of the powers blaming it to the Dragon's Birthmark. Yusei is then prompted to fight on in this duel and change her. Yusei tells her that the birthmark may hold the answer for her pain, but to in order to find out she must think and love herself. He eventually wins after the her mask is cut in half and Aki falls, crying for help.

Although he is freed, due to his marker, people still treat him as a criminal. A perfect example is displayed during the Fortune Cup, where people discriminated him.

[edit] Back to Satellite

Immediately after defeating Jack Atlas during the Fortune Cup, Yusei demands to speak with Godwin in order to find out the whole truth about his Signer mark. Godwin explains small details about the Dark Signers and how Signers are destined to battle, as was decided 5, 000 years ago. He then states that Yusei should go back to Satellite and destroy the Dark Signers there. Yusei agrees, and is taken back in a helicopter.

[edit] Dark Signers

Kyosuke Kiryu was once a friend of Yusei's, whom he looked up to as an older brother figure. Due to a misunderstanding in the past, he and Yusei duel as Signer and Dark Signer. Kiryu wins, but Yusei's life is saved due to the malfunction of his D-Wheel, thus evading real damage from the Earthbound God's attack. Traumatized by that event, he trembles at the thought of facing another Dark Signer and inevitably loses confidence.

He is however, forced to save Aki when she lies in a coma because of the Dark Signer Misty's attack. When Hideo Izayoi asks him to awaken his daughter, he refuses, remembering that Aki has powers equal to that of a Dark Signer, and fear plaguing him yet again. Seeing that this is unbecoming of Yusei, Martha openly scolds and teases him, giving encouraging words that eventually lead Yusei to get Aki onto the Signer's side.

While having supper in the orphanage, the Dark Signer leader Rudger Godwin appears and challenges them to a duel. Yusei agrees, and is forced to turn Rally into ashes in order to win the duel. This sets his resolve into place, and declare that his anger is enough to destroy all the Dark Signers.

He later heads off to duel Kiryu, no longer afraid. He wins through the Crimson Dragon's miracle, Saviour Star Dragon. He holds Kiryu in his arms, crying when he turns to ashes. He is then challenged by Rudger, and there he learns the truth about the Old Momentum and his father. Unable to accept defeat, Rudger sets off a bomb, and Yusei falls into the Underworld. He meets his father in the River Styx and is returned to the real world shortly after.

Worried that Aki may not be able to finish her duel in time, he chases after her only to be tricked by Divine. He nearly drowns with Mikage, but is saved by Ushio. Later, he confronts Divine and finds the truth about Tobi. He records it and sends it to Misty, who orders Ccarayhua to eat him alive.
