    Default Yakou's eye?

    I think I've seen this talked about once or twice around here, but I don't know if I've seen any answer. If there has been an answer (or if there's a topic devoted to it that I somehow overlooked), I apologize~!

    But um...in the flashback of Yakou finding that Pegasus is gone...why exactly was his eye oozing out of his head?

    o_o;

    Can you show a picture? Because I know that when he uses the wicked god's power, his eye does get like that, showing that he's being corrupted by its power and it heightens his duelist ability. But I don't remember him doing that before he got the wicked gods in his possession.

    Oh that!

    That's just artistic license. There's no real storyline reason. It's just showing how crushed and sad Yakou Tenma is. It's as if he's crying but they're illustrating that in a very creative, surreal way. It's not the same thing as when his eye bulges when he uses the power of the wicked god cards.

    No, that is most DEFINITELY a melting eye. The same bulging crazy eye Tenma had when he summoned the Devil Gods and at random times throughout R.

    Honestly I feel that this was some kind of scrapped plot point, because towards the end of R it just kind of vanished (the weird eye and everything) and nothing more was said of any of it in the final duel. R's ending really did feel rushed and something didn't quite fit right. This weird eye is one of those things.

    Makes me wonder if he did something weird to his eye in homage to Pegasus o_o but yeah, I definitely think it was a scrapped plot point. I was just wondering if anyone had any insight (...haha, ow) into it, or if an explaination had been hinted at.

    If it's purely a God-related thing, maybe it's just a show of how that moment began his corruption? Still, you'd think they'd elaborate on someone's eye starting to drip XD;

    It's not the same thing. He didn't acquire the Wicked God cards until AFTER Pegasus disappeared and he enacted the RA project to revive him and get his revenge. Unless you truly believe that Yakou Tenma oozed his iris and retna out from his eye, and just shoved it right back in there.

    Then if it was a scrapped plot point (which is just baseless speculation), its a moot point and is thus...artistic license. If it has no point or foundation in the story anymore, it can't be anything but that. And again, Yakou's weird eye is explained as a side effect of using the power of the Wicked God. That's all.

    The whole thing is kind of reminiscent of Malik. Yakou may not have had two personalities, but he definately wasn't the sanest of people. Looks to me like a visual cue to that running theme in Yugioh about villains being otherwise decent chaps corrupted by excessive grief/anger/etc.

    Maybe it's a reference to anime!Otogi's eyeliner, seeing as how his anime intro was basically an equivalent of R's storyline, sans the creepy magical parts

    It's definitely more reminiscent of how Yami Malik's face was drawn during Battle City during the Duels of Darkness he had against Mai, and Yugi. It looked liked his face was stretching like rubber and distorting, to show how truly twisted he was during the scene he was in. Sometimes they even showed him with two faces and expressions. His face was not literally stretching and floating off into the darkness. It's called artistic license and creativity, folks. Not everything is meant to be taken literally.

    Yami Malik's contorting face was the result of Malik trying to escape from within him. This was made clear when he tried to call out to Isis during her duel against Kaiba and Yami Malik sealed him away in that prism in the anime (and kind of shoved him back into himself in the manga.)

    I still get your point, even if it was a poor comparison and will hold to my firm belief that there may have been some point to it other than just being artsy fartsy, even if it was retconned before being explained in the finished product.

    Whatever the result, it's still artistic license used to convey an unseen action or emotion, which is my entire point. And not all the times that Yami Malik's face stretched and distorted, were times the normal Malik personality was struggling to break free. Sometimes it was just Yami Malik's jubilant and sadistic persona smiling while he continued talking or explaining a card effect, like with his duel against Kujaku Mai. Point being, it's not something the characters are actually seeing in the story. It's an illustration for the reader's viewing pleasure that will help us see and understand what's going on in the story, allowing the author to convey the emotions, thoughts and unseen elements of whatever scene is being illustrated.

    Then there might have been some unseen plot point too when Toy Magician attacked Depre Scott for game and turned his face into legos temporarily...or there might've been some lost plot point involving any of the random times YGO illustrated something surreal or non-sensical, like someone's face shattering or exploding when defeated.... Or it could be just anime/manga where they use dynamic, and surreal expressionism to convey significant moments to reader.
