Thread: How old are the Tenma brothers

Hm. I've been wondering about this as well, actually.

Pegasus must've started adopting children sometime after creating Duel Monsters, which could range from ages 17-24. I'm going to go with age 18 for this theory, as that's the preferred minimal age for an adoptive parent. (Although I don't think he went on adopting that early, not until DM gained some popularity.)

I thought the brothers were around 11-13 when Pegs adopted them. That'd make Yakou and Gekkou 17-19 by the time of R.

Personally, I always thought they were around 18-20 years old... But we don't know the age difference between the two, either. We only know that Yakou is the younger brother.

(Also, determining character age by their looks' is never a guaranteed method, alas. Dangit!)

Makes sense, aren't they twins too, that they would be at least 18 to 20 considering aren't they the ones running I2 right now? Don't you at least have to be that old to actually run a business. Kaiba withstanding.

They are, yep. Pegasus chose them as the heirs for I2.

Yakou didn't look much younger than Gekkou though, so I guess the age difference wouldn't be much. Just a guess...

Just noticed something. Pegasus uses the name Tenma in one of the games as a cover name. Taiyou Tenma. Coincidence or is Tenma a common name?

Ah, yeah. That name is quite interesting... I'll look up the kanji.

Tenma Taiyou - 天馬太陽

天 means Heaven.
馬 means Horse.
太陽 means Sun.

Actually, "Tenma" is a creature similar to Pegasus.

Spoiler: Spoilers to Reshef of Destruction (Just to be safe? :c)

It's a pretty ironic cover name for him, though. He's corrupted by Reshef, a dark being who absorbed even the God Cards' power. The main character eventually restores the God Cards' power, frees Pegasus from Reshef's influence, and duels Reshef himself. After the duel, however, he attempts to possess Pegasus again. (He "found the darkness in his heart") He thinks he's unforgivable for the crimes he had done, so he lets the Dark Being inside his heart. Then the main character seals both of them away.

Weird. Interesting myth you found, wonder if Takahashi knew about this and that's why he used it on Gekkou and Yakou. I remember that there was a translation of their names refering to the fact that Gekkou means moon and Yakou is sun. I think it was on the chapter where Gekkou battled Yuugi for the first time.
