The official 5D’s FAQ Topic~
I realized that this forum is becoming cluttered with redundant
questions that could be answered easily. Therefore I have composed a
hopefully decent guide for others :3
Series Questions:
Q: What does 5D’s mean?
A: 5D’s = Five Dragons that serve the Crimson Dragon. This is confirmed in episode 98.
Q: How long is it and when is it going to end?
It is confirmed to last 154 episodes and end in March 2011 so that Zexal can start the next month.
Q: What time does this take place in the YGO timeline?
A: Its unknown exactly how into the future 5D’s is, its assumed to be
somewhere between 17-20 something years after GX occurred as Ushio is
the same Ushio from DM’s period.
Q: Wait- DM’s Ushio = 5D’s Ushio?
A: Yes, the 10 anniversary animation book confirms this.
Q: Does anybody else from DM/GX’s time appear there?
A: No, but there are numerous references to characters hidden as easter eggs.
Q: Where can I find subs and raws of this series?
A: I would check the thread in the media streaming section first for subbed episodes. For raws, I would check on Barchela or Saymove.
Q: How do I watch 5D’s live when it airs?
A: First you need to download Keyhole
and install it, it allows free streaming of Japanese television. Then
you need to look up when 5D’s airs in your timezone (it airs on Tv Tokyo
at 6pm in Japan time). For instance, those on the East Coast of America
will have it air at 5am for March through October and 4am for October
through February because Japan does not observe Daylight Savings.
Q: The episode just aired today! When is it going to be uploaded/subbed online?
A: Very soon, within usually hours of its airing a raw appears on
Youtube or Saymove. Subs are provided by Goldenumi or yugiohgxst or
somebody else within a few days.
Q: Where can I find pics of Character X?
A: Oh, there’s several places to look!

Q: Where can I find those huge caps posted right after an episode airs?
A: Those are posted in a section on 2chan. Be careful though, the caps will only be online for approx 48 hours before they are taken off the server.
Q: Who or what is Bruno?
A: He's one mysterious guy with a case of amnesia who is on Team 5D's
Q: Who or what is the Yliaster Trio?
A Trio of men who play anti synchro monsters who want to complete a circuit.
Q: Is Rua a half signer?
A: This was a popular rumor back in seasons 1~2. However...
Q: Who is that mystery man from Rudger's flashback?
A: One of Yliaster's low ranking mooks.
Q: What is Black Feather Dragon? The fifth or sixth dragon?
A: It is confirmed to a Signer dragon. Perhaps the sixth since Life Stream did appear first.
Q: What are the names of the OP/EDs so far?

Q: How are the seasons structured?
A: According to the 10th anniversary animation book, this is how they are listed:
Fortune Cup
Episodes 001-026 (26 episodes)
Dark Signers

Episodes 065-137 (62 episodes)

Q: Wtf is up with the robot shrimp/robofetus?
A: There's not much I can say without spoiling a twist revealed at the end of the series but!
Q: Why does some people type Jack's name as JACK ATLAS?
A: Because he's awesome yes. Seriously, I believe the origins stem from
an early scan where Jack was first mentioned and Horoko decided to have
fun with the translation and spell Jack's name in all caps. The name
stuck thanks to Jack's large ham attitude.
Q: How bad/good is the 5D's dub?
A: Well first, your mileage is going to vary as always, but the 5D's dub
(the English one, I know very little of other dubs) is essentially a
watered down version of the original Japanese. Music is completely
replaced, dialogue is toned down and sometimes added when the characters
are silent, almost everybody gets a name change (some are more
questionable then others, Trudge I'm looking at you) voice actors
choices are also questionable (as well certain accents) and anything
deemed too objectable for children's television is cut or altered. A
rather humorous example is Himuro's knife is cut and replaced with dirty magazines.

Q: How can I own this series legally?
A: Unfortunately, the only way to purchase this series for those who
live outside of Japan is with Duel Boxes. Nice, but expensive box sets
that cost around 180-220 dollars a pop plus you need a DVD player that
can play region 2 DVDs. But if you are interested in buying it anyway, I
suggest looking on Amazon or YesAsia for them.
Q: Where can I find Duel Box scans?
A: Cindy has been very kind and scanned the first three boxes for our viewing pleasure here. But the other Duel Boxes have yet to be scanned at this time.
Q: What's the differences between the 5D's manga and anime?
A: The 5D's manga is essentially an alternate universe of the anime,
while the characters do retain their names, faces, their personalities
to an extent, and a resemblance to their anime backgrounds, so far a
different plot has been unfolding.
Q: Has the manga been scanned/translated/brought over to the West?
A: Yes! Scanlations are done by Siliva and are placed in the Trophy Room
and moved into the Download forum after a few weeks. New chapters are
being published by American Shonen Jump and the first volume will be
coming out in a couple of months to the states.
Q: Why does everybody spell names differently?
A: It's mainly because Japanese can be romanized/translated in different
ways and the dub name changes. I've seen Carly's names come up as
Carley/Carlie/Kari. As long as you can tell what the hell they are
talking about, there should be no problem.
Q: What does (name)shipping mean?
A: This is how pairings are called within the YGO fandom as a whole. The
name is to symbolize, relate or just puns at the pairing itself. For
instance, Scoopshipping refers to the Jack/Carly pairing as they met
because Carly at first wanted to get a scoop on Jack. Some shippings may
have multiple names, the Yusei/Kiryu pairing has been coined as
Inverseshipping, Treasonshipping and KirYuushipping. A full list of

Q: Are Rally/Torunka/Jeager/Luciano female?
A: No.
Q: What are the names of the D-Wheels?

Q: Is the OVA canon?
A: The OVA - Evolving Duel! Stardust vs Red Demon's is not canonical. It
was simply a bonus episode thrown in to advertise the Buster/Assault
Modes of Stardust and Red Demons.
