Default Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Attack Names

I hope that this is not presumptuous, but I am trying to organize and expand this list, so I have been going back and looking for some of the overlooked attack names that haven't been noted... I am always happy to help when I can.

I noticed while I was checking for names that Edo also gives an attack name to Doom Guy's attack in Episode 78, but I was unable to tell what it was... It sounded alittle like "Black Cannon Doom", but this doesn't seem very consistent with the D-Hero attack names, lol. I think there was also one for Double Guy while equipped with D-Chain... I cannot tell what they were, but it is good to know they are there.

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to make sure Asuka realizes this is a new post.

"Dragon Sword Flash" should be "Destructive Sword Flash" (Hakai Ken Issen.)

Also, here are some more corrections:

Elemental Hero Neos - Wrath of Neos
Elemental Hero Flare Neos - Burst Rush
Elemental Hero Black Neos - Wrath of Black Neos
    Demiurge Ema - Alchemy Burst

Corrections made, thank you very much for helping to confirm all those attack names!

I am fairly certain of the last three unconfirmed names, especially Dark God since Mizuchi declares its ATK name repeatedly in 79, but I'll be checking the Gin duel again to be sure of the battleships lol.

Huh. I figured Neos's attack was called Last Orbit Neos given the way I hear things. And my hearing is pretty good too, Horoko. But that's cool you found how it really sounds.

    The speech pattern is

    "Ra-su O-bu" (Wrath of).

I added another, Asuka. Ema's attack name.

EDIT: Masked Gyura's attack name should be "念殺"...which is...I think "Will Kill" (and I mean spritual will, not as a verb) would be good. And I have a few more (I'm busy, aren't I?) So...

    Masked Gyura - Will Kill
Asura - Thousand Swords of Hell
Vampire Lord - Apostles of Darkness
Chiron the Sage (effect) - The Mirror of Truth
Summoned Demon - Demon Strike Lightning (I noticed Hamon's name and the Demon's attack had similar kanji.)

Shinato, King of a Higher Plane - *Samsara of the Six Planes

*六道輪廻 (Rokudou Rin'ne) is literally the "Endless circle of reincarnation and rebirth in the six planes." But since there is a card with similar kanji with a TCG name of "Samsara", I went with that. Catchy, huh?

(Shinato's name also has "Tenkai" in it. His name can be "Celestial King" or "King of the/a Higher Plane." Useless fact, but I thought it useful.)

I added/corrected them all, thank you again.

I went back to the Gin duel and I am relatively certain of the Giant Battleship attack names I entered in the list... Tetran and Crystal Core are certainly Crusher and Laser respectively, but I am not sure if he was saying Armed or Armored, lol. Armored would suit the monsters more, but it sounded like Armed...

Regarding Neos, I think we get so used to English attack names that we are unprepared for when they are in Japanese, lol. I thought Judai said Last Orbit too...

I can understand how you'd hear "Last Orbit." But you just have to really listen. Usually that's how I am. That's how I found out most of these names. I just had to really listen. (I thought Genesis' attack was "Herusatsu Blood" but that made no sense.)

EDIT: King Dragoon should be "Twilight Burn" (I didn't hear a "-ing".)

EDIT 2: Leo Vulcan should be "Leon Vulcan" (because of its name, which I also screwed up.) Eatos' attack should be "Forbidden Gospel", her effect should be "Soul of Sacred Sword", and her attack with the Artemis bow (if you want to list it) should be "Forbidden Service" (Technically, serve, but it makes more sense like that.) And there are a few more...

    So...

Alchemic Beast Lead Leon - Leon Vulcan
Guardian Eatos (Normal) - Spirit Opera
Guardian Eatos (Sacred Sword) - Forbidden Gospel
Guardian Eatos (Effect) - Soul of Sacred Sword
Guardian Eatos (Artemis Bow) - Forbidden Service
    Guardian Deathscythe - Forbidden Requiem
    Guardian Elma - Impassioned Thunder
Guardian Grarl (Axe) - Fearless Slashing Strike
Guardian Grarl (Fist) - Fearless Dash
    Guardian Kay'est - Taintless Wave
Amazoness Paladin - Dance of Sacred Sword

Oh, and Makyura the Executioner has three attacks (anime/manga combined)

Makyura the Executioner (anime) - Judgment Sword
Makyura the Executioner (manga) - Excruciating Execution
Makyura the Executioner - Cutting Execution

Pendulum-Bladed Torture Machine had a similar sounding attack as Makyura's last (Dansai no Shokei) but it's spelled 断砕 (a kanji combination.) It'd be something like "Slicing Execution" (Dansai in that context would mean...something like someone holding you and snapping you straight in two.)

Got a real big one this time:

Horakhti, The Creator of Light - Djoser (Kanji: Creation of Light)

Djoser was the name of the Third Dynasty king responsible for the Step Pyramid in Egypt. His name in Japanese is spelled in katakana as ジェセル (Jeseru.)

And it shouldn't be "Golden Gospel" for Eatos. That was a mistake by me before listening more closely.

If it helps Bryon, I just updated the default name listing at the top of this page with the latest additions, as well as some of the minor monsters I had missed on the last page...

As a personal request, may I ask about Asuka's Cyber Sporty monsters' attack names? I noticed that Asuka gives Cyber Tutu and Cyber Blader attack names in her duel with Titan as well as Cyber Prima in the duel with The Boy, but I am having difficulty figuring out exactly what they are. I recognized Tutu's as "??? Pointe", Blader's as "Something Crush" and Prima's as "??? Reverence", but couldn't recognize the prefix in each case.

Are Ya Guyz/gals Planing to make a list of ALL the (ORIGINAL) attacks names in YGO (DM, GX, 2 Movies, YGO! R, Manga and CM ...when it comes in Japan )?
While I cannot speak for anyone else, Bryon and Horoko already started a great listing of these cards which I think is very helpful (especially from a fanfic perspective, it is nice to know the proper card names and have them in a neat listing), so I am trying to help contribute what I can to help them continue it, lol. I am really just trying to organize them in order so it will be handier for you guys.

Edit: I also found a new attack name... Rose gives the attack of her Death/Des Frogs as "Death/Des Recital".

Its dubbed name was probably that. But we've established we're only doing original anime names.

    Thank you for checking those!

I am surprised Reverence was the only one I correctly identified as well, lol. I had suspected Tutu's attack name referred to a "pointe" because of its ballet connections when I did a little research into it, as ballerinas use hard-toed pointe shoes in order to perform, which would seemed to fit Tutu's attack since she kicks with that sort of shoe in her attack. I was quite off on everything else, lol.

    No problem.

Well, there isn't really any way to distinquish between "Point" and "Pointe" in this context. If you want to go for the authentic value, I would use "Pointe", if you want to go for the literal meaning, go for "Point." I've seen it written as both ways, so use whichever you want.

At least it's much easier than "Pas de Deux" which doesn't even look like it resembles its original spelling to the untrained eye (パ・ド・ドゥ/Pa Do Du).

And in suite, Cyber Blader's second and third effects are called Pas de Trois and Pas de Quatre. (Dance for three and a dance for four.)

Cyber Blader (1st Effect) - Pas de Deux
Cyber Blader (2nd Effect) - Pas de Trois
Cyber Blader (3rd Effect) - Pas de Quatre

    I found some new ones...

Arcana Force I - The Magician - Arcana Magic
Arcana Force VII - The Chariot - Viral Cannon
    Dino Tank - Energy Crush

All from Turn 73... I am sure of these names except for the prefix of The Chariot (Viral is my best guess, it sounds like Virar when Saiou delivers its attack on Dark Tyranno) and Dino Tank's suffix.

None of the other Arcana Force cards appear to have attack names yet... Saiou never names a coin effect, since he is too busy delivering a destiny speech every time a card is rotating lol.

Wasn't Mobius' attack called "Ice Knife"?

Also, I'm sure that Die Hard Guy's effect is "Wonder Life".

And finally, I believe that Armed Dragon LV5's attack is called "Armed Buster".

    Mobius' attack was "Ice Lance."

    Diehardguy's effect is "Wonder Arrival."

Armed Dragon's attack names go, as following:

Armed Dragon LV5 - Armed Buster
Armed Dragon LV5 (Effect) - Destroyed Five
Armed Dragon LV7 - Armed Punisher
Armed Dragon LV7 (Effect) - Genocide Cutter
Armed Dragon LV 10 - Armed Big Punisher

I amended the listing... It looks like Freezing/Freeze Burst (is it possible to verify which it is?) is the name of Mobius' effect, so that was a misidentification. In addition, Zaborg also gave a name for its effect which sounded like "Death Thunder". I added it to the list with a *, since it hasn't been confirmed yet...

What about Armed Dragon Lv5's Spike Spinner attack? and Armed Dragon Lv7's Dragon Sonic Sphere attack?

It's Freeze Burst and I believe Zaborg's attack name is "Rolling Thunder" not "Roaring Thunder." And you were correct, it is "Death Thunder" for its effect's name.

We're only using the attack names from the original, Japanese version of GX, and I believe that those two names are from the dubbed version.

I added all of those entries to the list, as well as one I observed while looking over the Gravekeeper duel:

    Gravekeeper's Assassin - Assassin Blade

I believe attack names were also given to Spear Soldier, Chief, as well as Guard's effect, but that was the only one I was able to recognize... Is Shining Nova the name for the dragon's attack or its effect?

The effect. It's what Kaiba tried to use to wipe out the Pyramid of Light card but failed.

The attack of the Gravekeepers go, as following:

    Gravekeeper Chief - Royal Wrath
    Gravekeeper Curser - Destruction Spell
Gravekeeper Curser (Effect) - Weakening Spell
Gravekeeper Spear Soldier - Swift Spear Clash
    Gravekeeper Assassin - Assassin Blade
Gravekeeper Guard - Guard's Whirlwind Strike
Gravekeeper Guard (Effect) - Gravekeeper Warding Pulse

    EDIT: Also...

Helios Duos Megistos - Flames of Volcanus

Sorry Ryusaki, I had missed those... They are added now ^^

I think there is a good chance this listing may now be completely up to date for GX... I am going to check the Taniya duels later as well as Sho's duels, but that appears to be the last thing to check before this is a complete listing up to GX 88.

Unfortunately, I do not have a supply of DM episodes to check as well so from that point on I will only really be able to contribute by alphabetizing the list lol.

Edit: I added Patroid to the listing as it had a clear and recognizable attack name, although I believe Gate Guardian is given a Japanese attack name in Turn 10...

    Patroid - Signal Attack
Superconductive Warrior Linear Magnum Plus Minus - Magnum Rail Gun
Magnet Warrior Omega Minus - ??? Linear Saber (It sounded like it began with a phrase I did not recognize)

I remember in DM, Gate Guardian's attack was Raishoudan. In the manga, Viz translates this as 'Thunder Shot'.

Superconductive Warrior Linear Magnum Plus Minus - Magnum Ray Gun
Magnet Warrior Omega Minus - Linear Saber (That was "Koi no Linear Saber" or "Linear Saber of...Love"....)
Gate Guardian (Hyuga and Sanga) - Mafuu Shougeki Ha (Demon Wind Shockwave)

I think Gate Guardian's attack was the exact same as Sanga's attack (Raishoudan/Thunder Impulse Shot.)

So far I've been adding the attack names that appeared in the GX and R scanlations, but only The Earth has been given an attack name so far in the current GX scanlations on Janime. Cyber Dinosaur and Dragon Knight both seem to have no given attack name...

I have some R attacks listed that I've spotted in the scanlations as well.

Edit: Added those to the list, thank you for checking Horoko and Ryusaki for pointing that out.

In GX, the attack name is at 15:43 in Turn 10. It sounded like Para (or was it Dox? The one in orange, lol) said something besides "Mafuu" but "Shougeki Ha" was certainly what followed. I think that it sounded like "Mashin" or more likely "Majin"... Under the circumstances and my limited knowledge of Japanese, I want to say "Majin Shougeki Ha" is a possibility.

Para is the one in orange, Asuka. And it seems that I am glad this is being done by all of you guys too. Makes my job a lot easier than it should be sometimes. Besides, all of us can use this as a reference.

Hmm. Majin Shougeki Ha... if that is true, Asuka, I think it'd be Devil Shock or Impact. But I don't know much Japanese either, so you gotta pardon me for that. ^_^ Maybe Horoko has it covered.

Mei is the orange one and Kyuu is the green one (Mei being the oldest, Kyuu being the youngest.)

Hmmm, with my main source of episodes temporarily gone, would anyone want to make a clip of the said attack? Or upload a LQ episode since Rapidshare takes a day between downloads?

While I don't have episodes to make clips from, I have been checking the GX episodes through Youtube streams uploaded by shriek... This is the Turn 10 I was checking, if that helps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViPTEJSsuBA

Unfortunately, they do not seem to have as comprehensive a collection of DM episodes, so that and GX 60 are off limits to me, as it is the only GX episode not available on Youtube lol.
