We don't know if the protagonists was part of his plan, his intention was to destroy Duel Monsters. Or perhaps, the protagonists were an obstacle, similarly to how Yugi was in Pegasus' way for taking over Kaiba Corporation. The protagonists certainly tried to stop him, however. He did give them a warning, but the protagonists didn't back down, so he decided to get them out of the way by dueling them.

And remember, changing the past = changing the future. Paradox believed that destroying Duel Monsters would have resulted in his future being saved from being destroyed by Duel Monsters. This would have resulted in a Grandfather Paradox, as Paradox's reason to travel in time was nullified. Then again, this plan of his never came to fruition, so we'll never know how it would have played out.

Indeed, I did go with assuming that what Paradox said was true. You're right about the possible "inaccuracies".

But does every antagonist lie? We know several of them hid their true agenda until the end, however... didn't Dartz tell his story to everyone during their final duel? (Ie. how he got the power of Orilchalcos and all) Granted, he told them somewhat before the end, but still.

Also, why would Paradox lie about his future being destroyed? If his motive is not to save the future, then what is his reason behind his actions? Does he have a reason to lie? Although I have a feeling the writers are holding back on information - information to be uncovered only in 5D's. Would he really just be doing it For The Evulz? He just doesn't strike me like that. Then again, I could be potentially biased because I like the character.

You're right about the whole "Sin" concept! I didn't think of the religious connotation. Paradox having an inner struggle makes sense, it also matches up with Atsushi Tamura's statement about Paradox carrying grief on his shoulders.

The Sin concept came from religion but I don't think the movie has a rapport with religion Sin can mean something bad or a mistake did in his life. All depends you heard by sin. Religion isn't a theme used particularly in Yu-Gi-Oh series, there only some references.

While we don't know that he is the last human on the entire planet, he may definitely be the only survivor in his area. He seemed to lose it by the end of the duel, but then again, he was getting desperate.

Actually, he was against all the struggle that occurred during that time - it look a lot of effort and pain to unite both cities. He was asking Yusei if he would not have wanted to have the cities united without pain. And since Yusei blamed himself for the Zero Reverse incident... (I think he said it wouldn't have happened if it weren't for his father, or something?)

I really hope they continue it for a bit more but my guess is until the movie is no longer running in the theaters which if I remember reading correctly on here was sometime in March, 2nd week? so we have maybe 2 or 3 more episodes with movie scenes in the intro and ending give or take? I could see them stopping it at episode 100, nice even number. I'll be honest, these scenes have given me reprieve for not being able to see the movie in person though I wish they would show more scenes from other parts, like the racing at the beginning we've seen clips of or whatnot. Don't get me wrong, the duel scenes are amazing but now it seems like I've seen the entire ending of the movie =(

At first I assumed it may have been Paradox's ability to materialize cards, but it seems like it's more one of those Rule of Cool effects the animators put in, apparently. I don't think so. If that were the case, he may have done it before. I think it's just a Rule of Cool thing. Perhaps Judai and Yusei also do draw cards/add cards to their hand that way, I think we have yet to see them do it.

Another thing which has been bugging me a lot is Paradox's shoulderpads. He wears them up until the beginning of the duel. He's wearing it while he talks to the protagonists, but as soon as the duel starts, they disappear without explanation. Like, one scene, he wears it. Next scene, poof gone! What was up with that? The cloth(?) hanging from his shoulderpads resemble the Sin Monsters' Sin armor a lot, so I assumed he kind of materialized them for himself... but that doesn't explain why they just disappear. Unless said "cloth" = his long locks of hair.

No he never does that in DM or in the cameo he has in GX. Rule Of Cool, basically.

Uhm, there's also the scene where Yugi activates the Duel Disk: while he's doing it he's wearing his jacket on his arm (and the Duel Disk is on the jacket), while in the following scene he's wearing the jacket as a cape and the sleeves are floating around. It might be an animation error, or he pulled a Kaiba and threw the shoulderpads away in a dramatic fashion to make himself more comfortable while drawing the cards/please the fans.
Then, in the last case, he would totally won the contest for the craziest anime hair ever.

And thanks to chrisedomaster for the scans. Also, the animators finally realized that Atem is as tall as Yugi, and not his bigger brother. Joy.
