Anyway... I'm wondering why did Paradox want to save his future? Was it for selfish reasons, or did he had someone he wanted to save? Or he felt humanity didn't deserve this fate? Or he simply didn't want to accept a world like this? But if the future was destroyed because of humanity's sin, why would Paradox want to save them, in that case? Or he wasn't aware of humanity's sin empowering Duel Monster cards / humanity's sin manifesting as Duel Monsters which then resulted in the world's destruction?

Why wouldn't he want to save his future? If he's the last human alive, and capable of time travel, what would he have to lose trying to save humanity and undo his tragic future? He'd end up just dying a lonely death amongst some rocks and rubble. Besides, if he's the "paradox" himself, he was already destined to end up trying to save the future, while in the process destroying it thanks to his actions. That assumption is really the only way that the whole "Murdering Paradox Fixes Everything!" shtick makes even a lick of sense given the storyline.

Hmm. I think the movie's "lack" of success could be based on several factors. I recall 2CH discussing how today's kids may not be too familiar with GX and DM. It may also have to do something with the cast itself - take the Pokemon movies, for example, the cast is usually Ash, Brock and Misty/May/Dawn + main movie character. They are easily recognizable, but in the Yugioh movie's case, there are a lot of characters. They may not be familiar with Jonouchi, Ryo/Sho or who Johan was. The length may be also another reason (a lot of people weren't happy when the fact got out).

Well I wouldn't say it lacked success. For the movie to be successful, all it has to do is a turn a profit, and not end up costing more than it returned. And I don't think this 52 minute OVA took a lot of time and money to produce. So even if it never made number 1, it still probably made a return and was a success in the studio's eyes. But those are probably the reasons it didn't end up swimming in cash like those damn, derivative Pokemon movies do XD

I honestly don't see how anyone, even a child, can sit through them. They're so formulaic its almost insulting. Well not all of them. Most of them...the Lucario one was actually pretty good.

I wonder if the movie elaborates on his future, or the only glimpse we get is the scene already seen in the trailer. It would really add up to his "moment of loneliness".

It's really hard to determine if a love interest is involved, really. Especially when the whole world goes down. And especially when some villains are good at hiding their agenda. (Pegasus, I'm looking at you.)

If it matters anything, I found this fanart where the artist decipted Sin Paradox Dragon as a girl, similar to BEWD who is actually Kisara. It's kind of sweet...

In the meantime, I was able to take a better look at Sin World's card art:



It looks like some kind of a portal, or a distortion of some sort, or some rune mark. It also seems to be raining down rays on the city. Depicting the world's destruction by the "Sin", perhaps?

I'd also like to point out Sin Tune's card art. It's a plant growing from a lone seed in the midst of flames(?). It could represent the following things:

{A} Paradox himself. The future has been destroyed and he's the only human alive. However, with him being alive, there's still a chance that the future may be saved - by him. He is the hope of the future, he is the one who may give a second chance for everyone, including himself, in other words, life can be "reborn", can flourish in the future again. (Then again, reality started falling apart from his meddling.)

{B} Yet another Chrono Trigger reference. In 2300 AD, the ruined future, you explore one of the ruined cities (domes) in hopes of finding food for a group of survivors. You do find the food storage, but the food is spoiled, and the person who was paying attention to it is dead inside. You find him holding a seed, which you then bring back to the elder. He says they may be able to repopulate the future with trees. Then he thanks Crono for giving him and his people hope.

{C} Sin Tune's effect is that it allows the player to draw two cards when a Sin Monster is destroyed. It represents rebirth - Paradox may be able to draw another Sin Monster or a card that turns the game in his favor.

I choose the first: the woman. It seems logical even It's hard to say If It's really this.

The yellow thing on Sin World reminds me an eye a little. Also a rune when you said.

I'm agree with the three propositions. Sin Tune represents a seed. The seed can be Paradox himself like you said, he is the seed who creates hope. But the effect to draw represents also the seed. By drawing cards, he can creates hope - If the card draw is good. Chrono Trigger's reference is very intresting. It's a good idea.

It's the Earth actually....it looks like this in Paradox's timeline. That's the ruined future. Remember the ruins that Paradox was standing infront of....in the official trailer. They were almost the same colour. So yeah.....that's the future ruined Earth.

But... if the buildings are on the Earth, how could the Earth be in the sky? XD Unless it's a reflection of some sort. Maybe it's the Moon? Perhaps instead of Darkness manifesting as humanity's despair, some other being manifested as humanity's sin, one which could be associated with the red/orange Moon? Interestingly enough, there was a Solar Eclipse in Darkness' case, and in this occurrence's case, a full Moon? (The full Moon is somewhat orange in color.)

There have been several theories by this point for that.

One of them is Makoeyes' Time Travel Theory, in which Paradox was responsible for his own future's destruction, created a time paradox which he failed to recognize, getting stuck in a loop in which he keeps traveling back in the past, destroying Duel Monsters and going back to square one, ie. the ruined future.

The other theory is my Darkness' Future Vision Theory, in which the future Darkness spoke of in GX came true. The cities were replaced by ruins, people turned wicked, terror was raging all over the planet, people became afraid of the possibilities in their lives. Just like how the darkness in people's hearts caused the Duel Monster cards to turn black and cause the whole Darkness incident, humanity's sins tainted the Duel Monster cards, causing destruction all over the Earth. (Duel Monster cards can also represent their owners, further amplifying the effect.) Hence the birth of Paradox's "Sin World", a world created by humanity's sin.

The third one is Shenmimengzhu's Theory from Newwise BBS, although I'm not sure if he changed his theory since. His was about how the forces of Darkness and Light mixed together in the future, causing chaos which led to the destruction of the future. It also explains the appearance of the Sin Monsters. (Mix of black and white.)

The only reason Pegasus himself wasn't killed was because of his Millennium Eye, which likely brainwashed him into seeking the tablet out and creating them in the first place. Duel Monsters was originally the "monsters" living inside people's souls (which were more or less that person's representation) sealed into stone tablets. And if you go by GX, it was also the origin of the world, which means it's some kind of an universal power packed into "monster forms" and ultimately into cards. At that rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the misuse of Duel Monsters led to destruction in that case.

Probably there are two worlds: one which was created from the human sins (or something like that), and the normal world. And normal word is being sucked in to sin world (So that leads to it's destruction).

Darkness theory has a lot of sense toward the movie. Paradox's ruined future is very similar at future with no humans Judai see by Darkness in season 4.

BBS theory is interesting concerning the Light and Dark themes. The origin of the Earth who causes the destruction of the Earth... Interesting, I didn't thought of this way.

It appears to be describing character dialogue. According to this, Paradox offers his body as a sacrifice (the LP payment) when he's summoning Sin Truth Dragon thus fusing with it. Wow. I guess that explains why he dies when Sin Truth is destroyed - his physical body no longer exists.

And Judai makes that Kagami face Jonouchi and Honda made in the anime in the movie. XD (The picture above is a photoshop, obviously.)

It appears to be describing character dialogue. According to this, Paradox offers his body as a sacrifice (the LP payment) when he's summoning Sin Truth Dragon thus fusing with it. Wow. I guess that explains why he dies when Sin Truth is destroyed - his physical body no longer exists.

And Judai makes that Kagami face Jonouchi and Honda made in the anime in the movie. XD (The picture above is a photoshop, obviously.)

Hmm, I have been wondering about how Sin Truth Dragon is summoned and how Dark Marik activates Ra's effect which causes them to fuse together. I'm not too familiar with Dark Marik or Battle City, so maybe someone could help me out on this one.

In Dark Marik's case, the fusion appears to be temporary - Marik is merely using his Life Points (life force?) to power Ra up. In Frantz's case in GX, the two can even be de-fused (I think Marik also de-fused with Ra in the manga?). By the end of the duel, Marik is usually alright and whole, he can return to his body. Meaning that fusing with Ra can be reversed. (When Yugi beat Ra with Black Magician and Black Magician Girl, did Dark Marik and Marik "switch places", though?)

In Paradox's case, it seems like he actually offers himself as a sacrifice to summon Sin Truth Dragon, destroying his body for real and making his spirit integrate into Sin Truth Dragon. When Sin Truth was defeated, Paradox was also gone. Thus the fusion in this case is irreversible.

Juudai jumps to the ground, apparently he's 20 meters above it...

Neos blocks the blast
Paradox appears

Paradox: To change the bad future, I have to repeatedly experiment on the past. I'm not going to interfere in you current people sacrificing yourself [Heleentje's note: I think it's more: "If you duel me I'll kill you, so I won't 'interfere' with your 'sacrifice'. I.e. your situation is hopeless". But I don't know. I'm not even sure of my translation, it's hard...]
Yuusei: If the present is destroyed, we too...
