Also, this is my opinion but, I didn't find it like he must shout out that loud as the english version. (sure that was good for the dub, but it isn't something to complain about not being like that in the Japanese version, its like saying "I want Japanese Yuusei to be like dub Yusei" or something like that )

Also, the music sure is louder than the voices in this version, if you hear it with headphones or turn the audio higher with the loudspeakers then it will sound better. (atleast it worked for me)

but it seems that its only the first 2 minutes or so when Paradox is dueling Yuusei, but other than that...
The other problem is that the audio is low, but I guess its nothing to complain about

    Edit:
Maybe the problem is because the audio is low?

Maybe it's just how it sounds on YT? Well, Judai instantly believes Yusei here, that's a plus.

I dunno, it doesn't sound weird to me. =/ Might be 'cause I'm used to it and everything, though. But it's pretty high quality even on YT, so that probably doesn't matter much.

And about that line emphasis thing, if you're talking about the Yusei hand-going-to-sky-from-Last-Train shot, he was just saying his "Take flight, Stardust Dragon!", so I'd say that fits the animation.

BTW, just curious, has there been any word on if the DVD (moreso the UK one than the Japanese one, probably, but either one) is going to be in 5.1 or stereo audio? If it turned out to be 5.1 and the UK DVD has the Japanese version on it, it'd be a good way to get the unreleased tracks separated from the voices/SFX/etc, like people have been doing for DBZKai.

Why would a Blu Ray not be in 5.1? I think it goes without saying that any DVD has 5.1 English audio, any Blu Ray has 5.1 dual audio.

same for me, its just that the audio that is low for me (Im I deaf ,or maybe is because my laptop has only one speaker working...), but that fixes with headphones

I would say the dub seems to have taken out the smaller pictures of the news ad on Pegasus' death and just made the main pic bigger. But wow, there's the necklace that belongs to Nico and West's dad.

EDIT: So finished watching and yeah, glad they changed the music score. The dub's score delivered way better, and voice acting was better. Even the lines. For me, I think dub does it best.

Well, I figured the Blu-rays might, but didn't know about the DVD (I know DVDs here are 5.1, but I didn't think Japan's are, too). Besides, I haven't kept tabs on Blu-rays since I don't have a BR-player.

And actually, now that I think of it, that might be why it sounds weird; it sounds like it would if I were playing it out of my DVD player. And watching the second part, the GX tracks seem to have been touched up, too, "A Powerful Threat" (during Paradox's first turn) and Judai's theme in particular. It's also kinda jarring to see 5D's-style stuff going on with DM/GX SFX, lol (like the circle-summonings using the old sounds and everything).

Awesome! I just realized that it's inverted. :/

So awesome to hear the BGM with the characters though.

DVD for Japanese audio is usually 2.0 stereo, as that is what they record in (hence why it sounds lower quality most of the time). Blu Ray is enhanced, but I am not sure if they record in 5.1 surround sound, like English does every time, for movies. If you are getting the DVD, please let us know what MangaUK has it listed as.

EDIT: MageMagic is only used in the credits? What a waste. I thought it was an insert song like Clear Mind was.

    "Oh no!"

"Oh YES." -generic guitar riff #47-

Not that recycling the previous anime music without even taking the time to arrange them into new songs was much better I'll admit. To each their own I suppose lol. Odd note? I didn't notice the first time around that Paradox's final attack just... floats stationary in mid-air for about 30 seconds in order to let the heroes chat amongst themselves and give each other a pep talk before they actually activate the Kuriboh combo. That's a very polite and patient energy blast Sin Truth Dragon has.

    Best movie ever!
The duel part was awesome even if it was short

    Paradox sounded incredible
the dub did cut a little parts
The movie do feel rushed at the begining but that's a minor thing.
Yami Yugi's voice changed a little bit...
I liked what Yuusei said at the end ^^

    Japanese Pwn the dub.

So wait, I'm not alone in this? Perhaps it has to do with the differing sound effects over the generations clashing, as opposed to in the dub where they are all near the same quality. Also, the dub sound tracks, while less epic, seem to string together better, and don't make it such a jarring change from track to track (Yugi's transformation for instance strung right along into a duel track). Finally, the music is not so different, so styles don't clash (orchestral 5Ds compared to metal GX).

Each individual track might be better for the original, but the way they were pieced together doesn't work so well. Add that with Sean Schemmel being a better match for Paradox, and you got yourself a more epic finishing "Mako" face shot.

It's not really that the dub's music was mixed well, just that the Japanese music was mixed so poorly in this movie. x_x"

Of course the quality of the Japanese OST is still far superior. As awesome as Jose's theme is, I don't like how awkwardly looped it is when Paradox takes Stardust. But it's still an awesome theme.

Can you really compare Light and Dark and Passionate Duelists to the score of the dub, and Makemagic credits music to the lazyness of reusing the dub opening themes?

The only thing that bothers me specifically about the Japanese is that Paradox sounds more hammier in the original. Otherwise its just superior in every way.

From what I can though, 4kids didn't edit anything besides the dub beginning intro and Japanese intro is edited out (well that and the card art). I'm a bit surprised they kept the ending sequence from the Japanese movie.

As for the necklace (which we've known about for some time), I suppose it was a dropped plot point, perhaps involving Kiryu joining the WRGP since I remember his VA expressed interest in it.

I'm not talking about looping per say. I am simply saying the styles didn't mesh as well. Looping is simply an added problem. Also, there was a random Light and Dark so soft it didn't really do any good.

    Spoiler: ignore if biased
Ignore this if you have a strong bias.

People are blind to the flaws. I'm not surprised, it has happened before.

Both actors for Paradox are great, but Sean Schemmel is obviously more experienced. It shows. Also, the Japanese VA only once used the Hiruma laugh, and only for a second. That is kinda his signature, and they only have him do it for a second.

It's not that the Japanese version is perfect, but it is obviously superior to the watered down dub version. Even if the dub did better this time, anything that adds puns and tries to kidify it means it is watered down, so the original is better.

So wait, even if the dub were better, the fact it added some jokes makes it worse? I'm just trying to follow this train of thought.

Let me add, Pegasus was quite a joy in the dub, for some reason he just seemed to work out better. And don't get me wrong, that added joke at the end where the sky went back was kinda corny ("The storm seems to have cleared up") but damn, it was quite funny (whole theater of 50+ got a laugh).

I haven't seen the dub yet, so any comparisons will have to wait for me. As for the soundtrack for the JP, it seems ok, but as people said, it doesn't seem well mixed, and some of the themes chosen aren't the best. (I think it would be better if they could have used some of the DM soundtrack, since it was all GX and 5D's, and GX passionate duelists <<< than DM's version. Guess there must be some issue with that music, as some of it would have worked before in places IMO, like Duel of Friendship instead of Yusei's Theme, but that was still pretty good.)

As for the acting, I just skimmed the movie, so can't really tell. It seemed fine to me, but Atem's voice was a little different, especially in some of his yelling. Not bad, just different.

What I'm saying is the original sets a more mature tone, what the YGO franchise is supposed to have (not really counting parts of GX and ZeXal here, but...) and since the dub tones things down, it is automatically inferior to the original. I realize the dub kept many things this time compared to usual so they deserve praise for that. But if even one thing was cut from the dub version or changed, or added jokes not in the original at all... at least in my eyes... it is automatically not as good as the original.

This is not the same when comparing two uncut dubs that follow the same script. We will see how the dub version does on the uncut DVD, which will be the final judgment.

I doubt they made two versions ...

While mature themes are somewhat Yugioh like, the mature theme in 5Ds supposedly didn't do so well (perhaps was Yoshida, but the theme was there; I used to have a link to the ratings, but it got lost).

I don't like how the dub make the VActing. Its sound less natural and more like they're acting and doing drama so that people laugh at the characters for saying something that its supposed to be serious.
Also the sounds used in the Japanese version were more awesome and they fitted the moment, not to say that they were more noticiable.
The only thing that annoyed me a bit was the sound change for the marks, but thats it.

If a bad writer and poor writing choices was the cause of low ratings, then the theme isn't really to blame.

Althought I do agree that they may not have made an uncut dub, they may not have bothered to waste money on it.

Ehhhh... I'm going to have to go with the dub for this one. It may have just been the theater experience, but seeing the dub version felt more like watching an actual movie. This felt more or less like watching to episodes of 5ds with special guest stars Yugi & Judai. Granted that's basically what the movie is in the first place, but it didn't help that the Japanese version used mostly 5ds BGM and didn't use any original tracks besides MakeMagic. Plus the fact that Jose's theme was basically looping for the first ten minutes of the show.

I DO want to find out what they were saying in the original version, though.

Erm. Most of us are acknowledging that the song arrangement even in the Japanese one is lazy, cost-cutting, and not particularly well-organized. Even I said as much in my post. ^^; I just don't think the standard generic unidentifiable guitar riffs are better by default. One score being bad doesn't transmute the other bad score into a good one is what I'm suggesting lol. If you don't like the dub music, it isn't going to sound better just because the Japanese music is arranged badly too (and it is). Lesser of two evils and whatnot.

I actually am pretty disappointed the Japanese soundtrack is lazy and recycled without even arranging the songs to sound new and prettier. It was very slapped together as it was, especially when you had GX music which totally broke the mood of the other song styles, and Judai's Theme stood out like a cheery sore thumb.

I'm just happy to be able to watch this movie in good quality for once.
I never watched the dub (asides from the part of the first cam rip posted), so, I can't anything asides that.

Oh yeah, I really do have to thank the person to give us a high quality upload of the movie.

Now the only thing to wait for is for Littlekuriboh to make the abridged version. Only 8 more months to go!

The music, even though there could have been better choices for some moves, was amazing.

Hearing Judai's Theme again, put me over the top.

Ehem finished the movie and I have to say, I enjoyed that. It was good to hear Passionate Duelist (GX version) and Judai's theme once again. It actually made me smile. Still think whatever language it is in, that final turn was awesome. This could have worked better is it was much longer atleast 90 to 100 minutes would have worked but sadly it is only 49 minutes and felt like an 5D's OVA. It's fun to watch but I still wanted more on Paradox or a hint on Zone, Aporia, and Antinomy of some sort in the movie. Now that would have been an awesome tie in move. I give this film a 3 out of 5 stars dub and 2 out of 5 stars japanese.
Please vist, as all ideas are welcomed!

I disagree. I thought the music selection was just fine overall. My only issue was the weird lopping of Jose's theme as all of you mentioned.

The real problem with this movie comes back to how short it is. It's still great, but it feels so rushed and in the end anti-climatic. They honestly should have ditched the 3D and just used the budget to expand the movie's content, linking it back to 5D's and expanding on Paradox's character.

By the way, if this movie uses 5.1 audio as I believe it does.... GREAT. This movie used one unreleased GX track and the unreleased version 2 of Placido's Mixer. I will be able to remake these two themes with virtually no sound effects, because that is how 5.1 audio rolls.

Dub or sub, I think the movie is only worthy of 3/5 stars and no higher. They get points for the beautiful animation and art and the voice acting is great. That can't excuse how generic and rushed the plot is, though.

Too true. I agree with the music issue that everyone's been bringing up, too; I liked the choices, but there were better options they could've gone with in some spots, and the mixing could've been a bit better in some places. It would've been cool if they added more footage on the DVD, at least (though I don't see why it wouldn't be in the theater release if they did), like 5D's' finale is apparently getting, but eh, it was enjoyable for what it was. The fact that they didn't really touch on Paradox is disappointing, too (as is that he doesn't get any more fleshed out in 5D's aside from a "Paradox? Oh, that guy I fought with Judai and Yugi, right..." moment).

There was another unreleased GX one playing as the tower in Venice was crumbling down (that ominous one; played a few times during the early part of the Cobra arc in Season 3). Wasn't the version of "Placido's Fusion" that played the one released in SD3, though? It sounded just like it to me, but then I haven't heard the original in a while, so...*shrug*

But, uh, if you're able to get just the music for these, think you could send 'em to me? I'm hoping they'll help flesh out what I've already got done, haha.

The ones that seemed out of place to me were the random "sad" GX theme during Yusei and Judai's talk (mind you, I like it, but it's for sad stuff...) and that random 5D's comedy track playing during the festival. And again, as mentioned, the splitting up of Jose's theme. My theory is they originally had those as two tracks and just combined them together.

A lot of the other tracks work, though. If only this were at least an hour, then we'd probably see more tracks, possibly some DM tracks, used. It's a shame.

Oh, thanks for telling me. I wasn't even sure what series that was from.

It's really hard to tell the difference between Placido's Fusion unless you listen to the released track and then the unreleased. It becomes clear when you do. The difference is the ominous chanting in one and not in the other. Think of it as like a karaoke version of the first.

Which disappoints me, because after listening again, I think it IS the released version. Goddamn.

The Japanese Pyramid of Light movie was a much better example of how a good soundtrack just raises Japanese YGO so far above the dub. That movie was held up by the soundtrack alone, as it was basically a 'best-of DM ' score -- but it also had five new tracks, all of which were amazing. It's a really awful movie, but hearing 'Battle City', 'God's Anger' and so on made it far more bearable than the cringeworthy dub. It is questionable why the Japanese Bonds Beyond Time soundtrack didn't use any DM BGMs or really go for broke considering they had three anime worth of music to choose from, but it's still a pretty good selection of music. Even if it's not particularly delicately mixed, I'll still take it over -- as Hisui says -- generic guitar riff #47. I vaguely watched the camrip of the dub, and it seemed just as dub-y (read: cheesy, eye-roll-inspiring, wink-wink-nod-nod-we've-made-an-in-joke-laugh-now) as usual, so the Japanese movie would have to be pretty bad to be worse than that.

About the audio quality, they wouldn't release anything on blu ray unless it was 5.1. As for the DVD, that is anyone's guess. If you happen to have a DVD version of Summer Wars, what is the quality for the sub? On my Blu Ray, it is 5.1, for both English and Japanese.

(I am not sure if they recorded in 5.1, and if that would make a difference even).

Oh My Gosh, Kagami I love you so damn much! And I miss you so damn much, along with the DM series!
    ---------------------------------------------------
OK, I saw all 4 YT videos. I'm pretty pleased with the quality since there definitely is a difference between this "image" and what we saw from the various TV and cinema rips so far. But still this mirroring of the picture walks on my nerves, since I like things to be.........well........the way they must be. xD

Since many people here compared the japanese with the english version, I have to say that this only time the dub can compete with the original.
The original set more serious, smooth and quiet at times tone of the action, while the dub made the action more light-headed, dynamic and loud.

To be honest, if Yugi and Dark Yugi had different VAs, I would've been facing a dilemma in choosing the better version, but now I'll say I prefer the original, mainly because I'm too keen on the original DM music and Kazama. xD

May be things could've stayed in different way if the movie was longer and there was more interaction between the characters. Then 4kid's would've had a greater challenge to create good dialogue.

Still, as I said before, this time 4kid's did pretty well with the dubbing, so when something is well-done this should be admitted. This time it'll be worth having the english version in any kind of collection. But in the same time, as a loyal fan/girl I'll feel incomplete if I don't have firstly the original by my side. xD

So yeah....anyway....I'll be waiting for the moment when I'll be watching this without the inverted picture, cuz having to watch Yugi's 2 straight blong bangs on the left instead on the right is something that's till like a thorn in my eye. xD

And yeah....gratitudes to the uploader, since he'll be doing this not only for us, but for all fans around the world. x)

I want to watch it but not on youtube quality and without subs.
Hoping for someone to upload it so subers can get to work, those people would be my heroes.

Aaaand one more reason to have the english version in any kind of collection - to compare the changed scenes and to wonder why they were changed. xD
I personally have the habit to discuss this alone with myself. xD

BTW, the 4 videos are also uploaded on VideoSina, so have them in mind if those disappear from YT in the next days.

    Part 3 - http://video.sina.com.cn/v/b/54725202-1878917044.html
    Part 4 - http://video.sina.com.cn/v/b/54719922-1878917044.html

You'll find the other 2 parts respectively, although the quality isn't that good as in YT. Just have them in mind.

Hmm, that's quite a dramatically-improved image. I guess the Japanese movie has some touch-ups.

I think I noticed one of Paradox right after this scene with Dark Yugi, but not quite sure for it. I feel lazy to search right now. but I guess there will be fans who won't miss to find and publish all differences they find. I doubt they're many, but 2 or 3 at least.
